MUSCLE ACTIVATION TECHNIQUE:
REPAIR, RESTORE… IMPROVE

Fact: 100% of people over 40 have some level of muscle dysfunction. But most of them either accept the pain as a byproduct of aging or fall into what we call the “recurring treatment spiral”—daily stretching, weekly massages, monthly PT—that only provides temporary healing but almost always leads to re-injury. MAT is less about treating a problem temporarily and all about fixing it permanently.

Most people don’t know that when you’re injured, the body naturally compensates by asking other muscles to “pick up the slack” in an attempt to maintain stability. Put another way, the body asks other muscles for help. So your lower back pain may be a result from imbalances in your hip or feet. Or your tennis/golfer’s elbow may be caused by shoulder or spine dysfunction.

And as the body compensates for an injury, it becomes “out of balance” in its attempt to restore stability. For years, muscular treatment focused only on the injured area. But that usually lead to reinjury. MAT is a new approach that is proving successful in correcting injuries and eliminating pain—usually in a few 60-min. sessions.

MAT uses a system of “checks and balances” to assess every muscle in the body. Historically, people always found out what was wrong with them but never why it went wrong. Rather than just knowing that you have hamstring tightness or pain, we go beyond that to understand why it’s tight and correct what is causing that pain.

No treatment system has ever first focused on the root cause of musclular issues and then corrected them… until now.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

A range of motion assessment is used to identify imbalances and areas of compensation in the body.

  • Muscle testing for inhibited ‘weak’ muscles in the tight or protected range.

  • Treatment of the inhibited muscles to restore stability to the muscles working in that range of motion.

  • Re-test to ensure stability has been restored, enabling the body to handle the stresses place upon it by our everyday behaviors. Additional prescriptive exercises for self-help may be given.

GOLF & TENNIS PLAYERS

Golf and tennis players around the world googled “What is MAT?” when PGA pro Bryson Dechambeau credited his MAT training at the 2020 Masters press conference—article here.

·      For Tennis Players. Address tennis elbow, shoulder issues, tendinitis and bursitis.

·      For Golfers. MAT addresses back, shoulder, knee and hip pain/injuries. PGA star Matt Jones didn’t win a tournament for seven years but called out MAT as one of the elements that contributed to his 2021 Honda Classic win.

HOW DO YOU RESTORE PERFORMANCE?

Muscle Activation Technique does not massage or stretch tight muscles, but rather focuses on re-activating weak muscles and restoring strength and stability. When range-of-motion and muscle strength are improved to the point where they are balanced and symmetrical, performance can be greatly enhanced. For example, a MAT session before and/or after a round of golf can help prevent muscular imbalances and reduce potential injuries.
